Brentwood Cathedral Singers were formed in 1982. Their first concert, a performance of the Fauré Requiem, was given on November 2nd 1984. They have made concert tours to Germany, Ireland and Austria, and concert performances have included the Great C Minor Mass by Mozart, the St John Passion and the St Matthew Passion by Bach, Elgar's Dream of Gerontius, Rachmaninov's Vespers, Carl Orff's Carmina Burana and Brahms' German Requiem.

In 1995 they sang Handel's Dixit Dominus and Duruflé's Requiem in the Five Choirs Festival. In June 1996 they joined the Aurelian Ensemble, and the Cathedral Choir for the Fifth Anniversary Concert of music by Vaughan Williams, in October they sang Bach's Magnificat in a concert of Baroque choral and orchestral music, and in November they sang Fauré's Requiem in a concert of music by Mendelssohn and Fauré.

In May 1997 they toured in Ireland giving concerts at Trinity College Chapel, Dublin and at St Peter's Church, Drogheda. They sang in the Cathedral's Brahms Centenary Concert in June, the Voices for Hospices Handel's Messiah in October, and for the Five Choirs Festival in November: Verdi's Requiem. In December they sang Britten's Ceremony of Carols in a concert to welcome back the Director of Music, that also included many of his own carol compositions, and they joined the Cathedral Choir for the Service of Nine Lessons and Carols just before Christmas.

In March 1998 they sang Kodaly's Missa Brevis, and in December of that year formed the basis of the choir that sang in The Magic of Christmas concert with John Rutter.

During November 1999, they sang Duruflé's Requiem in memory of Cardinal Basil Hume, and were one of the Five Choirs who sang Mendelssohn's Elijah in the Five Choirs' Festival, and in 2000 they sang Bach's B Minor Mass with Brentwood Choral Society. They will be joining other local choirs again in this year's Five Choirs' Festival before going to Brentwood's twin town, Roth in Bavaria, to join with the Roth Kammerchor in a performance of Mendelssohn's Lobgesang (opus 52) and Rutter's Gloria later in November.
