Devote Time to the Arts

For many people, the arts are a significant part of everyday life. If you work in a bank, or a chemist or with insurance, for example, dance, music and great literature may have remained firmly on the sidelines of what is important.

Perhaps you enjoy a good book while relaxing in the sun on your teak garden furniture, or maybe you occasionally visit the theatre. For most, this is all the art a busy schedule will permit, and while you may wish you could devote more of your time to the pleasures of poetry or music, it just isn't feasible.

Rather than going through life denying your interest in art, literature or dance, why not consider setting aside a little time to invest in learning more about these things? Browse the net for appropriate evening classes dedicated to a subject that you enjoy; make the arts a real part of your life. (more...)

Making Sure You Enjoy the Retirement Years

Once retired, many people want to be able to do all the things they could not do while they were working, supporting and raising a family and furthering the career. Retirement is the time to be able to kick back finally and get to do all the things that were not possible for so many years.

Being able to go on vacation, enjoy the arts, theatre, music and see the sites is something many people look forward to when they retire. However, there may still be bills to pay and money needed to do all this. As well as possibly still having a mortgage payment too.

An option that can be considered is a lifetime mortgage scheme. This allows the home owner aged between 55 and 95, to have a lump sum of money added to the home at a fixed interest rate. There is no monthly payment on the loan and the home owner owns the home 100%. (more...)

The Noguchi table is a Work of Art

One of the greatest work of art is the Noguchi Coffee Table which is an exceptional piece of modernist furniture. This coffee table was designed by Isamu Noguchi and is composed of a wooden base made of two identical curved pieces of wood and a heavy plate top made of glass.

This coffee table evolved from a previous masterpiece of Noguchi which he designed in 1930 – a table made of glass and rosewood. This table was designed for the president of the Museum of Modern Art, Mr. Conger Goodyear. The base of the Noguchi table was originally made from Cherry, birch and walnut but was later reissued in Ebonized walnut.

The Noguchi coffee table was first introduced on the market by Herman Miller and became the most successful and iconic of all of his designs; however, in 1973, production of this masterpiece ceased turning it into an instant collectible. It wasn’t until 1980 that these coffee tables were brought back onto the market in a limited edition of approximately 480 tables. Production was then stopped again until 1984 when the Herman Miller Classics line of the Noguchi coffee table was introduced. This line has been in production ever since. (more...)
